Director
of Policy
The Director of Policy
and Communications reports to the Executive and Deputy Directors and is
responsible for supporting the development and helping manage all aspects
of CFE's public policy agenda.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide input in
shaping and achieving CFE's policy goals and strategies
- Conduct policy
research and analysis on education issues
- Design studies
and advocacy campaigns focused on school reform issues
- Monitor and develop
initiatives, analyses, responses, testimony, and other written materials
in legislative and regulatory matters
- Develop content
for media placement, public education materials and briefings
- Assist in development
and implementation of CFE communication strategy
- Draft press releases,
op-ed pieces, and letters to the editor for local and national publications
and electronic media
- Foster and maintain
relationships with relevant journalists and media outlets
- Provide content
for CFE website, newsletters and special publications
- Participate in
educational equity coalitions
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree
(Master's Degree preferred)
- Direct and significant
experience (five years) analyzing and developing public policy and communication
on public education issues
- Excellent research
skills (paper and electronic) and ability to synthesize information
quickly with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Superior communication
skills, both oral and written, including editing skills
- Ability to multi-task
and problem solve, prioritizing tasks to effectively meet deadlines,
experience in project management
- Self -motivated
with ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Computer proficiency
in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Access
